About
A note from the SLRFL 2008:Thank you for showing interest in participating in the 2008 SLRFL. SLRFL is a collective effort of teams and individuals within SL to raise money and awareness for and about Cancer research. In forming a team, you will play a very active and important role in this special event. Teams ARE the spirit of Relay For Life! All monies raised go directly to the American Cancer Society. You can learn more about the ACS, RFL and SLRFL by following the links below.http://www.relayforlife.org/relay/http://www.cancer.org/docroot/PAR/Content/PAR_1_Relay_For_Life.asphttp://slrfl.org/Last year the residents in this virtual community of amazing, giving people raised L$32,128,730 or USD $118,500!WHY DO WE RELAY?The staggering fact is that this year about 559,650 Americans alone, not counting our brothers and sisters around the world, are expected to die of cancer, more than 1,500 people a day! THAT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. And the American Cancer Society (ACS) is poised and ready to fight those numbers, in the US and around the world, until we’ve cured this terrible disease, but the battle cannot even begin without your help. But Relay For Life isn’t just about raising money. It’s also about bringing people together and building strong relationships, and some of those dear people will contract or already have cancer. Think about those relationships when you plan your events, and Relay as if every ounce of effort you put into it gives your loved ones another day to live. That’s the kind of impact you actually are having. That’s the kind of effort that will lead us to the cure! – Jade LilyTEAM INFORMATION:You may form or be on a team of up to 15 people, including a captain and co-captain. Your role as a Team Captain is to engage your team and to keep them motivated and focused on success. When a team is formed and a team name is picked you may add as many “team supporters as you wish and give them the title as a supporter of your team. Only the core 15 will be listed on the SLRFL website. This limitation is for logistical reasons during meetings, the mid-way fair, the campsites and so forth. Each team will be assigned to a team mentor. Your mentor will be there for any questions you may have. They will be your support, your cheerleaders, your knowledge base, your angels. Keep in mind that each mentor will have around 10 teams to support, but they will always get back with you on any question you may have. Each team captain will be given donation kiosks scripted so their team gets credit for the amount collected and the monies go from the kiosk directly into the ACS account. The amounts are posted on the SLRFL website, to promote a FRIENDLY competition. Let us all remember that we are in this fight together, and it is really about us as a whole community in SL raising money TOGETHER. The final total is the SLRFL team which includes all of us. Do not get discouraged or upset if other teams were raring and ready to go from last year, or that some teams with many supporters raise millions and your team maybe only gets to a few thousand lindens. Every single linden helps towards that final amount we raise, and we really have a lot to do this year to beat last years total!Teams are encouraged to schedule and hold events to raise money, during these events people will drop lindens into the kiosks. Look here: slrfl.org/?page_id=27 for some rules to follow when thinking about events you may have, and here: slrfl.org/?page_id=12 for some wonderful fundraising ideas. Feel free to come up with your own unique, fun way for you and your team to raise money! We will start seriously forming teams with a SLRFL team awareness party on February 17th, and then the kick off party to start your fundraising is March 17th. We will fundraise through the end of July.In July we have the big SLRFL "walk-a-thon" Relay event. Each team will have a campsite in designated sims for SLRFL. This is a fun amazing event that brings us all together at the end of our campaign to celebrate our efforts. You are encouraged to support walkers and cheer them around the track. You will not be able to have any large fundraisers at your campsite during this time, so the sims will not become so full that people cant walk aroundthe track. You are encouraged to do most of your fundraising before the walk. You will be allowed to sell things from your site, as long as they are in a SLRFL vendor. We strongly encourage you to get sponsors for each lap you walk. Think big in doing so, as last year it took nearly an hour and 45 minutes to walk the track. (maybe I was just slow gawking at all the amazing builds) Be sure sponsors know that the track will perhaps be even larger this year. Each team is should to have at least one person on the track at all times. The sims that the track runs through will have many amazing builds donated by many amazing content creators in SL. Encourage everyone you know to visit the track and donate to the ACS!If you are interested in forming a team, contact myself, Tayzia Abattoir inworld or at tayziaabattoir (at the gmail address) or Seaway Brodsky inworld or at ms_scoobydoo2002 (at the yahoo address). One of us or a team mentor will be in touch with you soon after.Celebrate. Remember. Fight back!
